Class Delivery and Learning Expectations

Class sessions are scheduled once a week to ensure you receive a balanced combination of practical and theoretical learning. These sessions are structured to cater to a wide variety of learning styles and to support your development of the skills and knowledge required for the course.

Workplace practices and environments will be regularly simulated and used to conduct skills-based assessments in accordance with the relevant unit requirements.

In addition to classroom learning, students should expect to undertake the following independent study commitments each week:

  • Up to 7 hours of self-study, which may include revision, research, and engagement with learning materials.
  • Up to 7 hours of assignment preparation, including completing assessment tasks, reviewing feedback, and preparing evidence for competency.

Homework tasks may include research activities, readings from prescribed textbooks, and ongoing work on assessments. All required learning resources are provided to students at the commencement of each unit.

Site Visits

This course includes face-to-face practical components delivered through scheduled site visits. These sessions are an integral part of the learning experience, providing students with real-world exposure to industry environments.

Attendance: Site visits are compulsory. Students will be notified of dates, locations, and logistical details in advance.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): All students are required to wear appropriate PPE for site visits. The following items are mandatory:

  • Steel-capped boots
  • Hi-visibility vest

A hard hat/helmet is recommended and may be required depending on the specific site. Students will be advised of any additional site-specific requirements ahead of each visit.

PPE costs: Students are responsible for sourcing and funding their own PPE prior to the site visit. These items represent an expected additional cost of the course and should be factored into your study budget.

Assessment Arrangements

Assessment for this course is conducted individually for each unit of competency. All assessment tasks are provided through the Learning Management System (LMS), where students can view:

  • A full description of each assessment task
  • Assessment instructions
  • Required resources
  • Submission guidelines
  • Due dates and assessment scheduling

A range of assessment methods are used throughout the qualification, including:

  • Written questions
  • Projects
  • Case studies
  • Role plays
  • Research activities
  • Reports

Students are required to complete assessment tasks outside of scheduled class sessions as part of their regular study and preparation. Your trainer/assessor will explain the assessment requirements for each unit at the commencement of delivery.
